This is the fourth book in Canadian writer Tanya Huff's "blood series," and we have another opportunity to gad about town with the dynamic trio: Henry Fitzroy, vampire extraordinaire; Vicki Nelson, former "star " of the Toronto police force turned private investigator; Mike Cellucci, hunky and conservative police detective. Usually set in Toronto, the three, not so harmonious comrades-in-arms travel to Ontario to solve a very personal problem involving Vicki's mother. This whole series seems very dark to me and this one is no exception. We meet, among others, a mad genius scientist and an arrogant, ambitious, ruthless doctor. There is conspiracy, body snatching, and murder. None of this sounds very unique. Yet, somehow Tanya Huff pulls it all off. These books are hard to put down. Ms. Huff's ability to create just the right amount of plot and character tension keeps you wanting to move forward. She has created very interesting and likeable characters and, for me, Henry, "the bastard son of Henry VIII," shines. As far as literary vampires go, he's a very intriguing combination of gentleness, controlled power, and the predatory nature. Subdued, but powerful beneath his exterior calm, Tanya Huff has him smoothly transitioning from "masked" to "unmasked." Her vampire rules vary a bit from some of the others (every author seems to have their own!) and he would never be found, à la Lestat, Edward, or even Dracula himself, involved in a close relationship with another Nightwalker. Huff's vampires are not able to share hunting territory, or even close physical proximity, but they can do IT (sex). Anne Rice's cannot. Charlaine Harris' certainly can. Tanya Huff's vampires do IT often and, seemingly very well. How did vampires become so linked with sex ? Who knows.
The only discomfort I had with this book is that, because of a certain plot line, Vicki carries a great deal of anger. That creates a little too much tension for me. But someone else might thrive on it. In all, I really enjoyed "Blood Pact" and highly recommend it to the fans of detective mysteries, the vampire genre, and even fantasy-science fiction readers. A good read.

Strong characters, strong actors (both quys are good looking too) and interesting stories. Too bad the writer's strike led to it's demise.
This book tells a story that elaborates from one of the episodes from the show. I wish the show never got cancelled.
Enjoy!
I really enjoyed the book.
The Blood Books are my favorites by Tanya Huff, make sure to start with the first one, Blood Price. If you like, then start on the Shadows Books, which continue Tony's story.
Just as good as the first three, gritty and fast moving. Gotta say though Tanya, if you are paying a proof reader you're being robbed.
Blood Pact is based on Blood Ties #4. Vicki's mom dies while at work. Henry and Mike follow Vicki to help her. Vicki tries to find out what happens to her mother's body because it is not in the coffin at the funeral home. I loved watching the Blood Ties series on Sunday mornings and I knew I would love this book. I would give the book 12 stars if I could.
