Caelen Wife Book Two A Whisper of Fate The Clan McDunnah Series 2 edition by Suzan Tisdale Romance eBooks

In my review on the first book in this series, Caelen's Wife: Book One - A Murmur of Providence (Clan McDunnah Series 1), I complained long and hard about Caelen McDunnah's persona being unrecognizable. In this book, we are reacquainted with our old Buddy Caelen and he's all that he should be. However, a huge problem for me was that he and Fiona had only two chapters together. That's right. They were together in the Prologue and Chapter 1, then had no contact with one another until the last chapter of the book.

I don't get it. Yes, there was continued setting up of the back story - that being yet another horrendous attack on a family of crofters, as Fiona and Caelen separately try to figure out who the villains are, but basically not much of a romance. Unless you want to consider Fiona pining away daily because she rejected Caelen's marriage proposal. That's not to say the story wasn't interesting, but I was looking forward to some romantic time with Caelen and Fiona.

Last, and this is spoilerish so don't read on if you don't want to learn something about Fiona's looks. Remember how Fiona was portrayed in Book #1 relative to her plain looks? It is now revealed that the "not-so-good-looking" comments have all been a scheme set up by her mother who persuaded the family to cooperate, so Fiona wouldn't grow up conceited and evil. Apparently, she grew up with the family continually casting doubts on her beauty. So, does she indeed have a broken nose, an overbite and somewhat stringy hair, or is she a tall, blonde, bonny lass? Who knows? Didn't they have mirrors in those days, or at least the possibility of a look-see in a clear river or lake? Perhaps we'll get a different story in Book #3. I just hope we have more of Caelen and Fiona togetherness.

Lest anyone reading my reviews on this series misunderstand - I'm a huge Suzan Tisdale fan. If you've ever read my reviews on some of her other books, it's evident by the 5 starred reviews I've given them. So far, however, this series has been a disappointment for this fan.

Caelen Wife Book Two A Whisper of Fate The Clan McDunnah Series 2 edition by Suzan Tisdale Romance eBooks Reviews

This not your typical highland romance. Caelen is definitely an alpha male who needs a strong woman. Fiona is his match in every way. After her husband's death she becomes chief of her clan. This almost never happens in a highland romance. She welds a sword, uses a bow & arrow & knows hand to hand combat. She even trains her clans women in these skills! More than likely you'd find Fiona dressed in chain mail instead of a gown. She is not your typical romance heroine but she's exactly the kind of woman Caelen needs. This book is full of intrigue & problems the couple must overcome in order to be together. This is book one in the clan McDunnah series. Caelan is a returning character from other Tisdale series. Though this can be read as a stand alone book I have enjoyed reading all her books in order. As a result, I already loved Caelen and was invested in him before I read his story. He's tuff and a very powerful warrior in the books prior to this one. Being very familiar with Caelen helped me to appreciate the vulnerability and change that occurs in him during his story. While this is not the strongest Tisdale book in her interconnected highland romance series you will enjoy it! So find a comfortable chair & start reading! You won't be disappointed!
These "3" books (if you want to call them that) should have been condensed to one book and had ALOT of editing. I skimmed a lot through this book. Its been a very slow read. I like the characters enough that I am going to read the next one, but I dont know that I will purchase any more of this author's books. I had high hopes because she is so popular. But I have been a tad disappointed so far.
I don't think I've ever been as involved with a series as this one. Incredible author. The endings are spectacular and leave you scrambling to read the next book. So well done. And clean. Just a great story. No idea who the bad guy is. The characters are excellent. Interactions are excellent.
I loved this second part of Caelen and Fiona's story. Reading it, so many emotions are involved. The hard and sometimes cruel life of that era in the Highlands really comes across thru Suzan Tisdale's amazing writing. My heart broke reading how the 2 small children lost their parents, I was mad for Fiona and the situation she is in. But I also laughed at some humorous situations, Brodie and Noira, or Fiona's sisters-in-laws interference and Fiona's reactions to them. It ended with a hint that Caelen and Fiona will have the HEA they so well deserve, at least I hope so. I actually let out a loud grrrrr when I got to the end LOL way to end this book right when it got interesting. Now I can't wait for March 27th!!!
I just loved Fiona and Caelen's 2nd book of "Caelen's Wife". I wanted it to continue. I did not give this a 5 Star rating because I do not like the concept of dividing one book into 3 parts at all. It is really frustrating to me. I truly dislike when an author does that, it turns loyal readers off and sadly away.

I have continued to purchase Caelen's Wife in parts because I love this author. I am hoping that this is the last time this is done. I want to read a whole story and not have to stop abruptly in the story and have to wait long periods of time. I am very truthful with my reviews and I know gifted authors truly appreciate sincerity from the readers who pick their stories to read.

I sincerely hope Ms. Tisdale goes back to writing full stories.
I did read before purchasing that this story came in three separate books, I didn't think it would matter. It did. If you are interested in buying these, I would suggest that you buy book 1 and book 3. Book 2 is BORING and you really don't need it for the story, waste of time and money. Book 1, A Murmur of Providence is incomplete, leaves you hanging in the air, book 3, A Breath of Promise, finishes the story. I don't mind buying a series of books, when each one stands on it's own and is complete. Never will I buy this type of incomplete stories again. The story line is okay, the characters are okay except the heroine is hot headed and jumps to conclusions. Didn't think she had enough 'smarts' to be chief of a clan.
