The author was kind enough to give me a copy of her book in exchange for an honest review.

Once Upon a Road Trip is based on a true story of the author's 2 month long road trip. It's a trip that a lot of people think of having, but never end up doing. She stays with people she met off the internet. But not to worry, she had defense training, mace, and a knife, so she was fully prepared for anything that might come her way. But then there was Canada...oh Canada. She could've gone to jail for carrying mace but holding a knife is perfectly fine. Craziness.

Faith, hope and love are common themes in Angela Blount's debut novel, Once Upon a Road Trip. While faith may be a turn-off for some readers, it's refreshing for those that have faith in their lives, such as myself. Reading it, I felt myself wish that I was as strong of a person as Angie is. She has her boundaries and convictions that she does well in keeping throughout the novel. She incorporated Christ in her life by always asking for guidance and showing love to those around her, and she grew throughout the novel.

I loved the story and while it may have taken a little bit of time to really get into it, I found myself hooked. I absolutely loved the love story! Especially since it is a true happy ending. It's the story of true love and how she met her children's father. I also loved how clean it was! So many young adult stories have sex involved, and it's refreshing to see a character that wants to wait until marriage.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read an inspirational read about a girl with faith that takes the trip of a lifetime. I look forward to reading more books from her.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have read this book and I must say I enjoyed it very much. The way it is so relatable to any person of any age is incredible. I love the characters in this and the concept behind this book. It makes you think about how it would have been or would be if you were take a road trip like this by yourself now or then. This book has made me think of that. I feel like some people can relate very well to this book especially high school and college kids. The journey the main character is taking is risky but fun all at the same time as well as somewhat safe. I hope more people will read this book and possibly think about it and its message that they get from it. )
At one point, we have all considered a road trip with our friends, but could you imagine going alone and staying with people you only chatted with online? That is what this story is about. As taboo as it is for a young girl to go on a road trip alone and staying with random guys, this sheds a light on important issues. Women can be independent and defend themselves, but everyone can be vulnerable at some point. What happens along this cross country trip? Read to find out!
When I want to read a book, I want to be carried away by the characters, lost in the plot, and ultimately lose track of reality for a few hours. Once Upon a Road Trip did exactly that for me. I'm used to reading more action based stories, and wasn't expecting to fall in love with this book the way I did. It really comes down to the characters. While the road trip itself was fun to read, and the places she goes sparked my own sense of adventure, the five stars are given for the beautifully written characters in the story.

From the first pages, Angeli really comes alive. One of the most remarkable things to see as the story unfolds, is how she reacts in different situations (boy drama, Ground Zero, detainment). She's a complex character that is easily relatable and very human. She has issues in the beginning of the story, which don't just resolve themselves by the end. Her struggles and discoveries were depicted in a well laid out manner, and had me finishing the book in one sitting. Being a teenager myself, I can't get over how much I like Angeli. It's really hard to come by well-developed female lead characters, but Blount nailed it. As this is a true story, I'd give a lot to meet Blount!

Angeli is not your typical, drama-filled teenager. Yes, she has her insecurities, and she's not perfect, but she is level headed, has a critical mind, and doesn't have to rely on others around her to find her identity. Blount also does an amazing job of balancing the different aspects of Angeli's life her religion, past family problems, career indecision...not one aspect overcrowds the others. They are simply part of who she is, and that is something you can respect and enjoy in a character and an author.

The other characters are great, because they come from all walks of life, with situations of their own. She takes each one in stride, and I love to see the chemistry between them all. This story was so full of life, just in how she depicts each person. I loved it.

Vince and Scott. I am not one for love triangles, but I really appreciated how this drama played out. People have many layers, and how you slowly see more depth in both these boys was done flawlessly. I love how, by the end, I could still feel sympathetic for Scott (granted I was SO relieved when he was gone!) But only because she showed you a window into his life...and it was sad.

Back to Vince. Man I love this guy. Again, it feels weird as he's a real person, but he was another character I fell in love with. I appreciated how their friendship developed, again slowly peeling back the layers of his character till, by the end, I couldn't wait to see him again.

There were certain inconsistencies (she doesn't have a cell phone when taking on a road trip solo?) and grammatical errors, but they were easily forgotten once you got into the characters.

I realize this is based on true life events, which helps to bring a sense of authenticity to a story, but not just anyone can write the way Blount does, painting this adventure on pages. Five stars for some seriously great story telling.
I purchased this autobiographical novel a year ago, and (due to a super busy year's schedule) only recently finished it. "Once Upon a Road Trip" is an eloquently written coming of age novel. One reviewer stated that she (the reviewer) began a year's European tour which turned into a five-year journey where she found her true love. Angeli didn't have that financial background to rely upon. She set out to "find herself" with barely more than the clothes on her back. Her journey, which resulted in hard-earned knowledge and enlightenment, is a shining beacon to scores of us who have set out on similar paths. I won't go into details that other reviewers have covered (also, not wishing to prompt spoilers), but this is a story that took the author guts to write. It's not easy to bare your soul and story to readers, but Ms. Blount has handled it admirably and with courage. As a writer of my own self-revealing memoir, I tip my hat to her! Bravo!
