As a long-time Florida resident, I'm interest in books that explore the more unusual side of Florida, like Weird Florida: Your Travel Guide to Florida's Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets and Florida Authentica: Your field guide to the unique, eccentric, and natural marvels of the real Sunshine State. This book is a bit rougher around the edges than the two aforementioned, and is more of a collection of odd tales, but it has an authenticity to it. It helps that Bob Patterson knows how to spin a good yarn. His collection of stories may not excite everyone, but I enjoyed them. When I read it, I could almost imagine sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch of a house in the 'Glades, listen to Bob regale me with his anecdotes. Kyle McQueen's playful black and white illustrations add a welcome dimension too.

I wouldn't recommend Forgotten Tales of Florida to everyone, but if this subject matter sounds like your bag, then it's worth giving it a look-see. It'll be a keeper for my home library!

I've been a fan of Bob Patterson's music and stories for many years. He's a master story teller with a gift for timing and delivery, and he's included in this book some of my all time favorites. This is an awesome collection that draws you in and leaves you wanting more.
Lots of great stories and what a group of people to give a little background on real Floridians. Thanks for a great book.
Florida is a state with a long history of occupation, but it is short on accessible history and culture of this occupation. As a life-long Florida resident, I have always been interested in Florida's multicultural lore. Apparently, I am not alone in this fascination. Bob Patterson also holds this interest, and he has compiled some classic Florida tales in his new book, Forgotten Tales of Florida. Patterson's stories capture the wildness that still lurks in Florida's more natural places. There are tales about Florida's native people, about the Crackers that cultivated the land, and about the state's long affiliation with folks who live outside of the law. One of my favorite stories was about Guy Bradley and his defense of Florida's astounding bird population. I also love his stories about Florida's dangerous river country, like the story "Frog" and the William Ellis stories. This book is a great way to introduce yourself or others to the richness of Florida's heritage. It will tickle your funny-bone and pull at your heartstrings - a fully entertaining read.
The book was not at all what I expected. It was boring, NOT worth the purchase price and would not recommend it.
A treasure to read, highly recommended!!!
